Governor

At the 21st National Convention of District 132 held on March 1, 2025, in Skopje, Lion Maja Kostovska was elected as the district governor.

Maja Kostovska was born in Skopje, where she completed her education at the Faculty of Economics at the University of “St. Cyril and Methodius”. While still a student, she and her husband embarked on entrepreneurial waters by creating a family company for international trade in the field of specialized, then digital and later electronic equipment. She is retired from active work and remains working as an external consultant.

In the second half of the 1990s, she was actively involved in the non-governmental sector, with a primary interest in volunteering and youth. She is one of the founders and former president of YMCA Macedonia.

She has completed all trainings for work in civil society organizations, work, advocacy and assistance to young and vulnerable categories of citizens. She participated in the preparation of international conferences at a high non-governmental-governmental level, worked with children in foster homes, with women – victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. She implemented projects funded by MCIC, USAID, UNDP. Always with maximum dedication and always volunteering.

Maja became a Lion in 2011 at the invitation of her twin brother Emil Čuchkov, who has been a member of the Lions Club Skopje St. Panteleimon since its founding. In the club, Maja found the right environment in which she could fulfill her deep need for humanitarian work with a long-lasting impact in the community, accompanied and surrounded by noble friends with whom she serves and makes friends.

She has served in multiple positions in the club and district, including vision and then hearing coordinator, cabinet secretary for three consecutive terms, region chair, second vice governor, first vice governor, and now district governor for the year 2025-2026.

For her work in the district, Lion Maya has been honored with multiple awards and recognitions, including the Presidential Award Medal and two Leadership Award Medals.

Lion Maya is the mother of two sons who have also been volunteers in civic organizations, has four grandchildren and nieces who are growing up surrounded by personal examples of humanity, empathy, and responsibility towards the people and the environment around them, and will undoubtedly continue the family’s volunteer tradition when they are old enough.
